NRM Kicks off EALA Race

At a news conference held at his offices on Plot 13 Kyadodo Road in Kampala today, Dr. Odoi made the announcement.

All candidates interested in running for one of the six seats in the East Africa Legislative Assembly have been invited to do so by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the chairman of the National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission.

At a news conference held at his offices on Plot 13 Kyadodo Road in Kampala today, Dr. Odoi made the announcement.

In a notice dated June 28, 2022, Tanga announced that the NRM Electoral Commission was calling for expressions of interest for the position of NRM Flagbearer for Member of Parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly for the 2022–2027 term of Office in accordance with Rule 10 of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus Rules of Procedure.

The East African Legislative Assembly has six (6) parliamentarians.

The following minimal qualifications must be met in order to run as an NRM candidate for Member of Parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly: I Ugandan Citizenship; ii) Age of 18 or older; and iii) Membership in the NRM Party.

A minimum “A” Level OR its equivalent in schooling is also required, and applicants cannot be government employees or officers in the Army, Police, or Prisons.

A voter must also be registered with the National Electoral Commission and not be a member of a traditional or cultural leadership position.

The notification stated, “For emphasis, eligibility for candidacy to the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda applies.”

“Voting is open to all NRM Members of Parliament.”

The following is the primary election process;

Any member wishing to run for the position of NRM Flagbearer for Member of Parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly must submit a written Expression of Interest and an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson at Plot 13, Kyadondo Road or electronically to nrmelectoralcommission@gmail.com starting today, Tuesday, June 28, at 2:00pm through Thursday, June 30, at 5:00pm.

The NRM Central Executive Committee will receive a list of interested candidates from the NRM Electoral Commission on Friday, July 1, 2022, and after considering the list, will suggest candidates for election to the NRM Parliamentary Caucus.

The NRM Electoral Commission will choose a day, hour, and location for the candidates’ nomination and election.
