Museveni is endorsed by NRM District Chairpersons as their party’s presidential candidate in 2026.
President Yoweri Museveni has been endorsed as the 2026 presidential candidate of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) by the NRM District Chairperson Forum.
President Yoweri Museveni has been endorsed as the 2026 presidential candidate of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) by the NRM District Chairperson Forum.
These indicate that President Museveni continues to support the NRA/NRM goal that will actualize the prosperity of Uganda and the East African Community Federation.
Hajji Kiganda Twaha Ssonko addressed the press at the Kati Kati restaurant in Kampala on behalf of more than 100 party chairpersons. He stated, “We woke up with entire support for Museveni as our presidential candidate for 2026; we will organize for President Museveni now and in the future.”
He stated that they desire to consolidate the peace and progress that the NRM government, led by President Museveni, has achieved.
These demands follow similar endorsements from party members and officials despite rumors that President Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, also intends to run for president in 2026.
These indicate that Muhoozi is an outsider to the party and that they will not permit him and his group to simply disorganize and divide it.
Medi Mulumba, chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the Luuka District, remarked that some opportunists are masquerading themselves as Gen Muhoozi’s supporters in order to mislead party members.
This could also provide an opportunity for the opposition to consolidate support for the NRM in 2026, he observed.
The chairpersons also complimented Alhajji Moses Kigongo and Richard Tongwong for their transparent administration of the party.
Under the slogan “Mzee tova ku main,” NRM Youth in Buganda recently endorsed President Museveni.
