NRM AT 36: Opposition is disloyal and blind to the successes of the NRM.

The National Resistance Movement commemorated 36 years in power on Wednesday, January 26.

Many opposition politicians and other unpatriotic Ugandans have said that the NRM, led by Museveni, has failed to deliver on its promises to Ugandans. I know, NRM’s accomplishments are so subtle that I feel compelled to try to disprove those opposing politicians who claim they don’t care about their country.

The National Resistance Movement commemorated 36 years in power on Wednesday, January 26.

NRM promised to restore Uganda’s constitutionalism, which it has done to a large extent. At the very least, we haven’t seen any major constitutional revisions enacted against the will of the people. Term limits and age restrictions remain in place. Our constitution isn’t just a piece of paper; we adhere to it to the letter.

Previous governments were notoriously intolerant of dissent. When our president took office, he vowed to restore freedom of speech.

Indeed, Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, a Museveni critic, has been dining with his wife and children at his house since he posted his tweets. When he criticizes Museveni, he is visited by decent guys from the Special Forces Command, who debate him to prove him wrong.

Extrajudicial killings were a common method of resolving political disagreements. They are no longer with us. When Zebra Ssenyange alias Mando sinned against the regime politically, the CID summoned him to answer some inquiries.

He wasn’t assassinated like the evil Amin and Obote of the past. Muslim clergy do not die under mysterious circumstances.

You’d have to be deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafening Peasants make up only about 70% of Uganda’s population.

The majority of our population – 30 percent — is not from the peasantry. Locals, not foreigners, own the majority of our economy. Native Americans, not Asians, make up the majority of our tax base. Foreign banks are greatly outnumbered by domestic banks. Do you know that I have accounts with Teefe Bank, Greenland Bank, Gold Trust Bank, and other financial institutions?

Corruption, corruption, corruption! Our capable leader has taken significant action in this regard. All corrupt officials have been apprehended, arraigned in court, and found guilty. Others have had their property auctioned.

In our lovely NRM government, corruption is not tolerated. Even if you were a part of its rise to power. Arguments that corrupt officials can be corrupt as long as they are developing five-star hotels in this country are a thing of the past. I believe Obote was the one who made such claims.

Uganda is undeniably one of the continent’s leading democracies when it comes to democracy. We’ve had frequent power shifts, with elections that were free and fair. Last year, we had our last free and fair election, when we elected a new president with a new name that the majority of the populace had never heard of.

Our dear government received an 11 on a scale of 1-10 for promoting national unity. To guarantee that the army owed him fealty, Obote employed tribal cards. This is no longer the case. We don’t see folks from the same region occupying senior positions in the army.

The Independent Magazine, which existed throughout Obote’s reign and was owned by Andrew Mwenda, who died recently, published an article titled “Family Rule.” According to the story, 13 members of Obote’s family, including his wife, son, brother, and other in-laws, work for the government. We don’t see such things happening today.

Governments relied heavily on patronage 36 years ago. Leaders ensured that parliament and the cabinet were bloated, and that gerrymandering was used to create controversial constituencies.

The cost of government management was exorbitant, but that was unimportant to them. We have a very lean government under the visionary NRM, where brown envelopes aren’t exchanged for democracy and the cost of public administration is so admirable. Are we choking under the weight of our debts? Please don’t!

The importance of dividing the powers of the three branches of government was overlooked by previous leaders. Obote had the power to overturn the judges and parliament whenever he wanted. Instead, our present president has proven to be a staunch supporter of institutions.

You can bet your life that a judge will readily grant bail to a suspect and that the suspect will not be taken by gun-wielding individuals in an unknown car soon after. You can rely on the legislature to

Patriotic Ugandans, if I worked hard enough, I could tell you about our NRM government’s accomplishments from dawn to dusk, till the chickens came home to roost. Don’t listen to the anti-American politicians in the opposition. They forget that the NRM government is responsible for the air they breathe. Ignore them because they are liars!
