No entry to Parliament without Vaccination Card MPs told.
“You are now advised that, as of Monday, November 1, 2021, access to legislative premises will be restricted to only individuals who have been vaccinated against Covid,” the Clerk to Parliament writes in a letter to all MPs.
Members of Parliament have been informed that they will not be permitted into the August House unless they can show proof of full Covid immunization.
“You are now advised that, as of Monday, November 1, 2021, access to legislative premises will be restricted to only individuals who have been vaccinated against Covid,” the Clerk to Parliament writes in a letter to all MPs.
According to the notice, in order to control the spread of the virus and ensure that other members of the public are vaccinated, Members of Parliament must lead by example, and authorities hope to demonstrate support for the government’s public health strategy by locking those who are not vaccinated out of the August House precincts.
“In his address to the nation on the state of the fight against Covid on Thursday, October 28,” the Clerk told MPs, “the president emphasized the need to have as many Ugandans as possible vaccinated as a strategy to control the spread of the pandemic, which is essential for the total reopening of the economy.”
“The Speaker’s office concurs with the president’s observation, and in the communication of the Deputy Speaker, she issued a directive at the sitting of Parliament on Thursday, October 28, 2021, restricting access to the precincts of Parliament to Members of Parliament, staff, and visitors who can show proof of Covid vaccination.”
As a result of the change, everyone who has not been vaccinated against Covid, including MPs, staff, and guests, would be denied admission to Parliament.
After the National Medical Stores and the Ministry of Health published similar recommendations lately, Parliament has become the third government organization to prohibit those who have not been vaccinated for Covid from entering its premises.
Similar instructions have been passed by a number of other local government leaders as the country tries to vaccinate at least 4.8 million people by the end of the year.
President Museveni announced on Thursday that the country will have received over 23 million doses of Covid vaccines by December and that the economy will be fully operational in January.
Despite calls from leaders for the population to get vaccinated, a number of people have not done so, and the president has stated that the economy will be reopened despite the low number of vaccinated people. He has also stated that he should not be blamed if another wave of the pandemic kills people, particularly those who have not been vaccinated.
