Doha, Qatar | BAZZUP |  At the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday, the Netherlands, Senegal, England, and the United States advanced to the knockout stage amid plenty of drama.

England easily defeated Wales 3-0 at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Doha to secure a matchup against Senegal in the round of 16. The second half was when Gareth Southgate’s team really started to make an impact despite controlling the ball for virtually the whole 90 minutes.

With a strong free kick earned by Phil Foden in the 50th minute, Marcus Rashford scored the game’s first goal. Foden then added a second goal with a straightforward finish following a low cross from Harry Kane.

After a strong run, Rashford scored his second goal of the game by cutting inside and beating Danny Ward with a low shot. It was also England’s 100th goal in the World Cup finals, and it was the third goal of the match.

As the United States defeated Iran to go to the round of 16, they faced the Netherlands. Christian Pulisic scored the winning goal in the first half.

Sergino Dest’s header was followed seven minutes before halftime by Pulisic’s goal. The Chelsea forward collided with Alireza Beiranvand in the goal during a goal, received medical attention on the field, and was replaced at halftime.

But Iran only managed one shot on target, and they were eliminated because they needed a draw to advance.

Senegal defeated Ecuador 2-1 at Khalifa International Stadium to go past the group stage for the first time in 20 years. Ismaila Sarr and Kalidou Koulibaly scored either side of halftime.

Sarr scored from the spot just before halftime, but Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo tied the score in the 67th minute with a close-range effort.

Twenty minutes from the end, Koulibaly scored a first-time goal to give Senegal the advantage back.

With six points from three games, Senegal finishes second in Group A. Ecuador came in third place, two points behind the winner, and thus missed out on a spot in the round of 16.

The Netherlands advanced to the next round as the Group A leaders with seven points after defeating Qatar 2-0 in Tuesday’s other match thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Frenkie de Jong.

For the first time in the competition’s history, Qatar lost all three of its group games.

Gakpo, a Dutchman who plays club football for PSV Eindhoven, has now opened the scoring in each of the first three World Cup games the Netherlands has played in Qatar.
