Uganda The “Non-Executive Directors Awards,” also known as the NED Awards 2023, were introduced by the League of East African Directors (LEAD) in collaboration with Ernst & Young.
The awards ceremony, with the subject “Celebrating Excellence in Stewardship,” is scheduled for November 23, 2023, at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala.
The awards’ main goal is to recognize the achievements of non-executive directors, who are essential to the day-to-day operations and expansion of companies in Uganda and the larger East African area.
The purpose of the celebration is to honor their knowledge, leadership, and efforts to develop NEDs and raise the caliber of board directors in the area. Mr. Batho Makhakhe, Partner People Advisory Services, will give the keynote address.
Speaking about the awards, Mrs. Pheona Wall, CEO of LEAD, stated that the NED awards provide a platform for non-executive directors (NEDs) who want to become more prominent board members and give them a chance to advance their careers in East Africa’s governance industry.
As the Quality Assurance partner for the NED Awards, EY embodies our commitment to quality and upholding the impartiality and integrity of the nomination process for deserving non-executive directors. said Sandra Nakibuule Batte, an associate director at Ernst & Young’s Markets and Business Development division.
Mr. Jimmy Serugo, the chairman of the organizing committee for the NED AWARDS, praised Ernst & Young for their initiative in providing a platform that allows the role and accomplishments of Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to be duly acknowledged.
“As UBL, we are proud and honored to be part of the 3rd NED Awards to recognize and honor all the non-executive directors whose contribution is key to ensuring sustainable business operations and overall performance,” said Eunice Waweru, director of finance and strategy at Uganda Breweries Limited, in closing.
She said, “These actions are an example of servant leadership.”
