Nagelsmann Continues to Pursue Chelsea Managerial Position Despite Lampard’s Arrival
According to reports in Germany, Julian Nagelsmann has held positive talks with Chelsea and is still keen to take over in the summer.
Chelsea have held talks with both Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique this week after sacking Graham Potter on Sunday in order to find an immediate replacement.
Chelsea, however, have turned to Frank Lampard, who has agreed to return to Stamford Bridge as caretaker manager until the end of the season.
Lampard’s second stint at Chelsea allows the club to extend their search for their next permanent manager, but it also leaves them vulnerable to losing potential targets like Nagelsmann, who has been linked with PSG, Real Madrid, and Tottenham since being fired by Bayern Munich during the international break.
According to Sky Germany, Chelsea’s initial talks with Nagelsmann have been “positive,” and the 35-year-old sees a move to the Premier League as his “next goal.”
Lampard, meanwhile, is expected to train at Chelsea’s training facility on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Wolves.
The 44-year-old, who was fired by Chelsea in January 2021, will then take charge of the team for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Lampard has been out of work since Everton fired him in January. Everton had not won in their previous ten matches in all competitions when he left, and they were 19th in the Premier League.
Chelsea is currently 11th in the Premier League, 14 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have played one game fewer.
