President Museveni has requested that Richard Byarugaba be reappointed as the managing director of the National Social Security Fund through Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja (NSSF).

The premier thanked Betty Amongi, minister of gender, labor, and social development, in a letter dated December 7 for already designating Patrick Ayota as deputy managing director.

On December 6, at a State House meeting in Entebbe presided over by the president, she ordered that Byarugaba be reappointed for a further five years in accordance with the suggestions made by the NSSF Board of Directors.

“In my opinion, a consensus has arisen that we should agree with the Board Recommendations to offer Mr. Richard Byarugaba and Mr. Patrick Ayota a five-year non-renewable performance contract to serve as the company’s managing director and deputy managing director, respectively,” she continued.

The agreement with Byarugaba ended on November 1st, 2022. He has been in charge since 2010.

In order to prevent any managerial gaps that could endanger the employees’ finances, Nabbanja indicated that the letter’s goal was to direct Amongi to proceed and name Byarugaba as the Managing Director of NSSF as proposed by the Board.

“This will ensure that the fully constituted Management Team can embark on implementing the Fund’s new Strategy in light of the New NSSF Law as amended,” she noted.
