Mykhaylo Mudryk Reveals Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko’s Teasing Over Potential Chelsea Move: Insights on Football Banter Among Ukrainian Players
In the January transfer window, Mykhaylo Mudryk joined Chelsea ahead of Arsenal.
Mykhaylo Mudryk, a Chelsea player, has revealed that Oleksandr Zinchenko teased him after his January transfer. The winger was on the verge of joining Arsenal, but instead agreed to join Chelsea for £88 million.
Arsenal had been interested in signing Mudryk for several months. Their interest first surfaced during the transfer window last summer.
However, following Mudryk’s excellent Champions League group stage performance, Shakhtar Donetsk increased their asking price significantly in the winter.
Arsenal had a couple of bids rejected after Mudryk stated his desire to join them. He was even interviewed by Zinchenko’s journalist wife, Vlada Zinchenko, about relocating to the Emirates.
Mudryk and Zinchenko have met on international duty for the first time since the transfer was announced this week. Ukraine will face England in a Euro 2024 qualifier at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Mudryk maintains that he and Zinchenko have no ill will. He does, however, admit that the Arsenal star has begun to tease him since he joined the Blues.
“He helped me a lot,” Mudryk told Sky Sports. I really like him. We often make light of Arsenal, Chelsea, and the color of London.
“But I like this guy, he’s very funny, very kind guy. We spend some time with him and always in positive vibes.”
Asked what colour London is, Mudryk replied: “Blue.” The 22-year-old is yet to score for his new club and has not been a regular starter of late under Graham Potter.
Zinchenko has also spoken out about his disappointment at seeing Mudryk sign with London rivals Chelsea. The former Manchester City star admits he would have preferred his international teammate to join Arsenal but understands the chances of that happening are slim.
“I told him, ‘It’s gone already, it doesn’t matter what you wanted, what the other guys wanted,’” Zinchenko told the Mail. Now that you’re a Chelsea player, you’ve signed a long-term contract, and you only have one option, one way: direct and forward’.
“Unfortunately, he didn’t become an Arsenal player – as I wanted personally! – but it’s life.”
The pair will play against each other for the first time on April 29 when Chelsea make the trip across London in the Premier League.
