JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, October 14, 2022/ — According to the African Energy Chamber (AEC), H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, will give the presidential keynote speech at African Energy Week (AEW) 2022. He will address African energy policymakers, stakeholders, and investors, as well as international partners, at the 2022 edition of the conference and exhibition, Africa’s premier event for the energy sector, which takes place from October 18–21 in Cape Town.
President Museveni’s attendance at AEW 2022 will be essential for defending Africa’s rights to maximize the continent’s oil and gas resources because global energy transition policies are preventing the flow of investments needed to maximize the full development and exploitation of the continent’s vast hydrocarbon resources.
AEW 2022 presents the perfect platform for H.E. President Museveni to highlight the continent’s massive oil and gas potential in making energy poverty history by 2030 while also calling for improved investment into African energy developments to both continental and international energy companies. With over 600 million people across the African continent living in energy poverty and yet much of the continent’s oil and gas resources remaining largely untapped, AEW 2022 represents the ideal platform for H.E.
Improved cross-border cooperation is acknowledged as essential for enhancing upstream, middle, and downstream activities as well as the use and monetization of oil and gas resources, and it will continue to be of critical importance for the African energy sector in 2022.
In this regard, President Museveni will make a compelling case for best practices to strengthen collaborations between independents, regulators, and national oil and gas companies in Africa in order to address pressing industry issues like a lack of investment and ongoing output declines in legacy projects.
H.E. President Museveni will make a compelling case for partnerships and investment opportunities across Uganda’s entire energy value chain as the East African nation looks to improve the development, exploitation, and monetization of its over 6.5 billion barrels of crude oil reserves and 0.5 trillion c.f. of natural gas. By showcasing Africa’s energy potential for fostering long-term and sustainable socioeconomic development and transforming the continent into a global energy and economic powerhouse
Uganda is a relatively young market for hydrocarbons, but despite the country’s substantial oil and gas potential, environmental organizations continue to prevent it from making the most of its resources.
Despite the promise this construction holds for the entire East African region, the massive 1,443km, 216,000 barrel per day East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), is still plagued by problems.
As a result, President Museveni will be arguing vehemently for the EACOP’s function as well as the numerous other initiatives taking place in the area.
“As African regulators and energy stakeholders come together to market Africa as a global energy investment destination, the Oil and Gas Industry is honored to host President Museveni at AEW 2022. Accelerating current hydrocarbon energy activities and launching new exploration campaigns are essential to unlocking GDP growth and stability as Uganda works to increase employment opportunities, ensure economic growth, and combat poverty. According to NJ Ayuk, the Executive Chairman of the AEC, “This President has demonstrated great fortitude in protecting Uganda’s right to develop oil and gas and has been a strong voice for a Just Energy Transition.”
Exploring and Investing in Africa’s Energy Future while Creating an Enabling Environment was the conference’s overarching subject. The opportunity presented by AEW 2022 will allow H.E. President Museveni to underline the significance of oil and gas for Africa’s energy future while providing an update on the progress of the EACOP and Uganda’s Tilenga oil and gas fields.
