Museveni: Our human rights record incomparable to any in the world
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa replied to NUP supporters who have been reproducing terrible photographs of armed forces torture episodes in recent months in his Saturday address
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa replied to NUP supporters who have been reproducing terrible photographs of armed forces torture episodes in recent months in his Saturday address. The photographs posted and published online by NUP members appear to have severely harmed Uganda’s worldwide reputation. The NUP members were re-ignited by the arbitrary detention of blogger Kajjubi Fred Lumbuye, who used social media to spread terrible photographs of Museveni’s security forces committing atrocities with impunity. Museveni, a telegenic autocrat who seeks to pander to his backers, has awoken from his slumber this evening to make provocative pronouncements hailing his army as a “disciplined” force. According to sources, Museveni is looking for donor money to keep his economy from collapsing under the weight of the coming crisis.
‘‘Our record on human rights is unrivaled anywhere in the world. The NRM does not believe in vengeance. Nobody in uniform (of the armed forces) should disrespect Ugandans. He stated, “You are not authorized to beat anyone…not even criminals.” He maintains that several people were slain for actively participating in the protests last year. “Some of the persons slain in the mayhem of November 18/19 were undoubtedly rioters, followed by those killed by stray bullets. But what were you aiming at with the errant bullets? “A police report is being investigated,” he added.
Concerns about suspects being tortured
“There are three possible mistakes in torturing suspects to get them to confess: torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong people, torturing the wrong Torture must not be employed in the future.”
On his guerilla campaign
‘”We never intended to assassinate Idi Amin or Obote. People who are unsure of their political stance utilize assassinations as a last resort. All of the people who have been battling us (NRM) have been vanquished, but only on a political level.”
