Museveni orders yet another armored military vehicle made in Uganda.

President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces’ latest infantry battle vehicle, codenamed Chui, which was designed and constructed in Uganda.

“I’m glad you’re following the rules. Uganda spends more than $550 million per year on automobile imports from Japan and Europe. All of the money we make selling coffee, which amounts to around $500 million, is sent back to Europe in the form of automobile imports. “This has to come to an end,” he remarked.

The vehicle was launched at an event at State House Entebbe, which was attended by Commander Land Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The UPDF Motorised Infantry (MOI) is a specialized Brigade within the Land Forces that is equipped with Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs).

It is an important component of the army’s combined arms force and the UPDF’s primary assault force.

Motorised Infantry can assist Infantry in combined operations but can also act independently.

The motorised infantry’s role is to supply firepower, shock action, armour protection, mobility, and maneuverability during conflict using the technical and combat capabilities of its equipment.

The brigade is based in Nakasongola District, 120 kilometers north of Kampala, on the Kampala-Gulu highway.

After the Nyoka, a Kiswahili term for snake, which was commissioned in August 2018, the UPDF is producing another another armored combat vehicle.

The Ugandan army produces the Nyoka at the UPDF Defense Depot in Magamaga, Mayuge district.

These armored military vehicles have shown to be successful in war zones such as South Sudan and Somalia.

Uganda began producing the vehicles because the South African company that produced the mambas and buffalos that the Ugandan army desired went out of business and new spare parts were difficult to come by.

As a result, the UPDF invented a method of upgrading and armoring the vehicles, leading to the development of the Nyoka.
