According to State House, President Yoweri Museveni will deliver his new year speech as well as his next address on the country's Covid crisis on Friday.

According to State House, President Yoweri Museveni will deliver his new year speech as well as his next address on the country’s Covid crisis on Friday.

“President Museveni will deliver his new year message and Covid updates to the nation on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 8 p.m. from Rwakitura, Kiruhura district.” “The message will be broadcast live on all radios and televisions,” Senior Presidential Press Secretary Linda Nabusayi tweeted on Tuesday.

The president is scheduled to offer an account of the year 2021 while also reflecting on the new year in his address.

Covid
President Museveni is anticipated to speak to the public on ongoing efforts to stop the spread of the deadly Coronavirus during his address, which will take place at his country residence in Rwakitura.

He is anticipated to speak on Uganda’s ongoing efforts to vaccinate at least 22 million people.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister, announced last week that only 3.4 million people, or 15% of the intended 22 million, have been fully vaccinated against Covid, while 9.1 million people, or 44%, have received the first vaccination.

In response, the president is expected to redouble efforts to increase vaccination rates against the fatal illness.

He is also scheduled to discuss the Health Ministry’s recent declaration that Covid booster shots and vaccine mixing for Ugandans have been approved.

Beginning with people over the age of 50 and those with underlying ailments, this is likely to be completed early next year.

The economy is reopening.

The fate of the country’s economy, which has been shuttered for nearly two years, will be a major focus of the president’s speech.

The scientists discouraged the full reopening of the economy, which they wanted extended for at least two weeks, during a meeting between the president and the Robinah Nabbanja Covid taskforce on Monday at his country home in Rwakitura as they presented him with the status report on the Covid situation in the country.

Despite being forced to choose between a rock and a hard place, the president appeared to be in favor of restarting the economy.

According to Museveni, the closure, which has lasted two years, has severely harmed several areas of the economy, and that it would continue to do so.

According to him, reopening will relieve some of the burden, but the government would guarantee that the public follows the established Standard Operating Procedures to prevent the virus from spreading.

It remains to be known, though, what the president’s choice will be.
