President Yoweri Museveni has encouraged religious leaders to teach their followers how to pray and act in order for the government to overcome the issues it faced in the year 2021.
Museveni made the appeal at State House in Entebbe, where he was joined by the First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, for the annual thanksgiving ceremony.
As he recounted the many problems, the president stated that it was only through the grace of God that the country was able to overcome them.
“Locusts (enzige) invaded us, but we exterminated them without eating people’s crops, landslides in Kasese, floods chased some people who had invaded the lake, Covid-19, cattle rustlers in Karamoja, the Bijjambiya in Masaka, bomb blasts in Kampala—there were supposed to be more, but there ended up being five—elections, terrorists, there were also floating Islands that “The Lord gave us the strength to vanquish them,” Museveni stated.
He thanked God for helping Uganda overcome its difficulties.
In order to solve the concerns of livelihood and health, the president recommended Ugandans to speak the same language, stating that “many tongues ruin the growth,” a play on the classic English proverb “Many cooks spoil the soup.”
Museveni noted that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) addressed these issues long ago in literature, among other places, but only a few individuals listened, citing a group in Kabarole led by Nyakana as an example.
He added that the group started commercial agriculture on one acre of land with nothing and now make Shs240 million (equal to $66,000 per year), and advised other Ugandans to follow in their footsteps to improve their living conditions.
During the thanksgiving service, First Lady Janet Museveni prayed for God’s protection over Uganda during the holiday season and following the New Year in 2022.
“As we enter the Fresh Year, Oh Lord, grant us additional blessings and new possibilities to possess our land as a nation.” Please, God, give us the strength, might, grace, and anointing we need to take possession of our promised land in every facet of our society. “Help us to be strong when we are weak,” she prayed.
Pr. Dr. Daniel Matte, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Uganda Union, led the service.
Dr. Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda; Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo, Dr. Joseph Serwadda, leader of the Born Again Faith in Uganda; Bishop Joshua Lwere, general overseer of the National Alliance of Pentecostal and Evangelical Churches in Uganda and a guest preacher; Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Antony Zziwa, chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda
“Because of the Lord’s immense Love, we are not consumed, for His compassion never fails,” was the topic of the prayers.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Zziwa encouraged Ugandans to praise God for the kindness he has shown them in his sermon.
“Uganda’s excellent management of the terrible (Covid-19) pandemic with minimal damage is no small feat. All of this is a testament to God’s love and compassion, according to Zziwa. He referred to Psalms 116:12 and 13 as well as Psalms 86:1.
He also praised Uganda’s government and health personnel for their persistent efforts to preserve Ugandans’ lives, and urged them to continue loving one another as God has loved them.
Pastor Laban Jjumba of Intercessors for Uganda prayed for national stability and unity, while Apostle John Bunjo of Christian Restoration Ministries International prayed for the national economy, among other things.
