Former Ethics and Integrity Minister Fr. Simon Lokodo has been nominated as a commissioner for the Uganda Human Rights Commission by President Museveni.

Former Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) coordinator Crispin Kaheru, former Kampala Woman MP and opposition politician Shifra Lukwago, and Jackie Atuheire have also been chosen as commissioners.
Their names, as well as those of Mariam Wangadya, the new UHRC chairwoman, were forwarded to the Parliamentary Appointments Committee for vetting on Wednesday.
“The Appointments Committee is set to engage with these presidential nominees on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the conference hall, parliament house,” according to a notification dated August 23, 2021 from the new clerk to parliament, Adolf Mwesigwa.
The Uganda Human Rights Commission, established under the 1995 Constitution, is a government agency tasked with monitoring and advancing human rights in the country.
Several commissioner posts have been empty for years, and the new appointments come at the perfect moment.
