Mudslide victims should be relocated to Bududa, according to MPs.

He further said that the land they moved them to was not fertile enough to support fruitful farming, forcing them to return to Bududa.

Bududa MPs have asked the government to consider relocating mudslide victims within the Bududa district.

This comes after victims of the 2010 Nametsi landslide and the 2018 Bukalsi floods were transported to Kiryandongo and Bulambuli districts, respectively.

Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, the Bududa district chairman, said that their people are being slain by Kiryandongo over land problems with the Banyoro during the presentation of their note to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja in Bududa on Saturday.

He further said that the land they moved them to was not fertile enough to support fruitful farming, forcing them to return to Bududa.

Resettling the people of Bududa in faraway places, according to Agnes Nandutu, a Bududa woman MP and state minister for Karamoja affairs, will not help them because they are used to fertile areas where they can practice farming, adding that people were relocated to new environments where their productive farming skills and culture could not be applied.

According to Isaac Modoi, the Lutseshe County MP, the area within the low land is being considered for urbanization so that their people might be resettled there.

He requested that the government consider purchasing land and constructing urbanization centers where people could remain and return to farming on their own land.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has pledged to bring the topic before cabinet so that the residents of Bududa can be relocated to their own district.

She stated that they would choose level areas inside the district, purchase land, and construct homes for the residents as they return to farming.

Over 200 people have been temporarily relocated to Bumwalye Primary School in Bulucheke sub-county, where they will remain until official action is taken.

Apolo Wenani, Sera Nabulo, and Peter Mangobe, among the affected and resettled persons we spoke with, thanked their MPs for their help, stating they were afraid of relocating to Bunambutye and other locations because they were used to their own country.
