Mubiru, a member of the National People’s Party, has been discharged from the Aga Khan Hospital and is seeking funds to travel to the United States.
James Mubiru, a councillor for the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been released from the Aga Khan Hospital where he had been getting treatment.
Mubiru has been in and out of the hospital for the past number of months due to liver issues.
“I began my medical examination at Rubaga Hospital, where I was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and pancreatitis, as well as a recommendation for further testing.” “I was told to travel to Mulago hospital, where I was admitted, and the results revealed the same problem, so I was sent abroad for treatment,” he added.
He said that the Aga Khan Hospital had also advised him to seek further medical attention.
“Unfortunately, Aga Khan has also released me with suggestions for future management from specialized facilities with high specialized medical care, particularly from nations such as the United States, United Kingdom, India, and Germany,” he stated.
Despite his health problems, Mubiru thanked Ugandans, his party, family members, and the Diaspora community for their contributions to his treatment.
“I continue to ask for everyone’s prayers for the Lord to intercede in the major milestone of my travel to the United States for additional medication,” he said.
Mubiru’s physical problems came to light last week when the Nile Post reported that the NUP stalwart had sought financial help.
Mubiru was arrested and jailed in 2021, during the height of the previous general campaigns, for wearing a red beret, which the prosecution claims is a military monopoly and an act that violates section 164(i) of the UPDF Act 2005.
Mubiru was granted bail in August after six months in detention and was subsequently inducted into office.
