Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, Uganda’s Mufti, has stated that the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) is rewriting its constitution to improve its processes.
Mubaje made the comments while speaking at Muhamood Kateregga’s Kawempe residence.
He stated that the constitutional amendment will establish a property trust for the benefit of council properties.
He detailed the late’s rise to Muslim leadership, beginning as an imam at Masjid Noor in Mbale and progressing to Kadhi Bugisu Muslim District and then Mufti of Uganda.
“Shortly after my election as Mufti, I met Haj Kateregga. He did have a pleasant and polite demeanor. He was generous and had a genuine desire to promote UMSC events,” he stated.
Mubaje thanked the late for educating his children, claiming that it was because of this that his son and heir, Haj Muhamood Kateregga Junior, was named national program coordinator of the UMSC / UNICEF Program.
Mubaje advised Muslims to follow in the footsteps of the late Kateregga by donating to UMSC, teaching youngsters about Islam, instilling discipline, and equipping them with life skills.
Many council properties are held by outspoken masqueraders, according to him, who are frequently heard blackmailing the current UMSC administration over alleged mismanagement.
The audience was told by UMSC Secretary General Ramathan Mugalu to prepare for the upcoming national Muslim elections, which will take place early next year.
