MPUUGA’S COLLEAGUES MAY MAKE OR BREAK HIS PRESIDENTIAL BID – KENNEDY MUTENYU

By Aggrey Baba

“Tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you’re”

This is exactly what’s happening as veteran Democratic Party (DP) member and Coca-Cola Uganda promotions manager, Kennedy Mutenyu, has thrown his full support behind Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, the Nyendo Mukungwe Member of Parliament, for Uganda’s presidency. However, Mutenyu’s endorsement comes with a cloud of suspicion hanging over Mpuuga’s allies.

Mutenyu, in his passionate endorsement, believes Mpuuga has the leadership qualities and public support needed to lead Uganda. “He has what it takes,” Mutenyu said, citing the growing frustrations of Ugandans tired of the current state of affairs. But he also raised a crucial point that has left the public whispering. “Some of Mpuuga’s colleagues in his camp may not have the clean hands they seem to.” According to Mutenyu, although Mpuuga stands for change, there are a few faces within his movement who are widely suspected of having ties with the very regime [NRM] they claim to oppose.

As the Democratic Alliance [DA], the new political movement launched by Mpuuga and his allies on December 6, 2024, begins to make waves, the public is left wondering who these suspected figures are. Names like Hon. Abed Bwanika, Hon. Mike Mabike, and Mukasa Mukaaku are being thrown around, as these individuals have long been known for their sharp criticism of NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and his party. Their reputations have fueled suspicions that they may have been playing both sides of the political fence, much to the dismay of those who hoped for genuine opposition.

[One bad apple spoils the whole basket]. As the DA moves forward, it will need to address these public concerns. Ugandans are watching closely, questioning whether the eagle’s flight will be strong enough to shake off the shadows that may weigh it down.
