MPs Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana have been summoned by the police in connection with the Masaka killings.
“This serves as a summons for you to appear before D/SSP Moses Taremwa at Masaka Police Station on Monday, September 6, 2021 at 1000 hours for a statement in relation to the said investigations,” the letters stated in part.
Over the ongoing killings in Masaka, the Police Criminal Investigations Division has summoned two National Unity Platform (NUP) MPs, Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana.
Police ordered the two MPs should attend at Masaka Police Station on Monday to record statements about the killings, according to two separate letters dated September 3, 2021.
“This serves as a summons for you to appear before D/SSP Moses Taremwa at Masaka Police Station on Monday, September 6, 2021 at 1000 hours for a statement in relation to the said investigations,” the letters stated in part.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is investigating some homicides that occurred on Greater Masaka between July and August 2021, according to the letter, and this is the foundation of Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana’s summons. However, the reason for the summons of the two legislators is still unknown.
In a tweet, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine suggested that the current machete killings in Masaka could be a new attempt to incriminate the party. He, on the other hand, believes the scheme will fail.
“Anyone can see where this is headed and what their ultimate goal is. What I can say without a doubt is that this current endeavor, like all the others before it, will fail. “All we ask of our people is that they be watchful and alert,” Kyagulanyi stated.
Over 30 people have been slain by machete welding gangs whose motives are unknown in the Masaka region.
On Thursday, a UPDF spokeswoman told NBS TV’s Frontline that security was on top of things and that they were certain that the killings would be put to a halt thanks to increased surveillance.
