MPs should avoid politicizing the Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana cases, according to Oulanyah.
Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, a Kira Municipality legislator, stated that President Museveni's recent pronouncements against bail had forced the judiciary work in fear.
Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has warned lawmakers against politicizing the pending murder case involving Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana and Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, a Kira Municipality legislator, stated that President Museveni’s recent pronouncements against bail had forced the judiciary work in fear.
On Monday, the two MPs were denied bail.
Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, the Minister of Security, backed the court’s ruling, prompting a verbal conflict with Ssemujju.
After revealing that Muhwezi returned to Luzira to pick up his two-inch mattress while detained for the GAVI Fund controversy in 2008, Ssemujju accused Muhwezi of being “mean.”
As a result, Oulanyah warned legislators not to politicize the ongoing murder investigation of the two MPs.
Francis Zaake, Mityana Municipality MP, informed the House that Ssegirinya is in serious condition and has been transported to Mulago Hospital during the same sitting.
When Oulanyah appeared to throw cold water on the situation, he stormed out of the House.
