MPs in Kasese ask the government to speed up the development of roads in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
President Museveni and his colleague in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, broke ground on the first of three roads that would connect their two countries in June of this year.
A group of Kasese legislators, lead by municipality MP Ferigo Kambale, has urged the government to expedite the construction of Uganda-DR Congo roads, which will improve cross-border trade and business between the two countries.
The legislators stated that the alliance will assist the two nations in dealing with the negative elements that typically hide in the Democratic Republic of Congo and destabilize Uganda’s mountainous areas.

The MPs stated that the construction company hired to build the roads in the Democratic Republic of Congo must expedite the process, noting that completing the project sooner will improve cross-border trade and business between the two nations.
They urged the contractor to consider employing local workers throughout the road’s development.
They said the roads will enable the two countries collaborate on how to deal with criminals who hide in the Democratic Republic of Congo and foment instability in Uganda.
The three roads, which span 223 kilometers and are projected to cost roughly $330 million, were approved by cabinet in October of last year. The first 80-kilometer road will connect the Ugandan border town of Mpondwe with the DRC’s Beni.
The second road will run fully within the DRC, covering 89 kilometers between Bunagana on the Ugandan border and the port of Goma on Lake Kivu’s northern bank.
The 54-kilometer third route will connect Beni to Butemboa, an important economic center.
