After penalty drama, Mo Salah sets up a confrontation with Liverpool pal Sadio Mane in the Afcon final.
After defeating Cameroon on penalties, MO SALAH set up a final duel with Liverpool friend Sadio Mane.
Salah had the last laugh after Cameroon attacker Vincent Aboubakar stated before the semi that he was no Kylian Mbappe, but the Kop star was not even needed in the shootout.
Over the course of 120 minutes, the two teams were held to a 0-0 draw.
Egypt, on the other hand, advanced on penalty kicks after a blundering Cameroon missed THREE successive chances.
Cameroon star Samuel Eto’o predicted a “war” in the match, and he was right when Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz was issued two yellow cards in a three-minute period around the halfway line.
After believing a Cameroon star had struck one of his players, the former Manchester United No 2 had to be restrained.
Queiroz was issued a yellow card in the 87th minute after protesting to the linesman.
However, the Portuguese strategist did not cool off and instead continued his rant while being restrained by his aide.
As a result, the referee became involved, and he quickly produced a red card, sending Queiroz to the stands.
After the shootout, Queiroz joined in the wild celebrations with his Egypt teammates, and his rage turned to excitement.
After returning to the Olembe Stadium for the first time, it was no surprise that the game got off to a slow start.
Salah gave the Lions a warning after 9 minutes when he cut inside and sent a shot just wide of the post.
Cameroon, on the other hand, dominated, with Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui hammering the bar with a header and Aboubakar having a header saved at the back post.
Karl Toko Ekambi, the tournament’s leading scorer, then missed another opportunity by shooting a shot into the ground.
After the break, Egypt coach Queiroz introduced Aston Villa’s Trezeguet, who provided his side a boost.
Salah’s initial touch, though, let him down, as he snatched a weak back pass as a result of Trezeguet’s pressure.
The Liverpool winger appeared to be in on goal, but Onana deflected his weak touch as he attempted to get around him.
Queiroz stepped up with his outburst before normal time finished in a semi-final that lacked drama.
He was, however, jubilant after the shootout victory, despite the fact that he will not be on the sidelines for Sunday’s championship game.
