Hon Frank K Tumwebaze said today, “We can only hand over power in a gradual way, not aggressively as the opposition wishes.” When curious media inquired about the succession talks, the new Agriculture Minister made a comment on the matter of a transition. Tumwebaze claims that Ugandans should be aware that Gen Museveni is not immortal, and that he will one day lose power, but that the NRM is determined not to lose power, which is why they keep their promises as outlined in the manifesto.
Tumwebaze goes on to say that the NRM is in power due of the will of Ugandans, and that they can only leave if the people want them to. He remarked, “These NUP fellas think we’ll just get power and hand it over to them.” He continued, “Bobi cannot rule this country because we are here to stay.” Tumwebaze goes on to say that the NRM can only lose power if Ugandans vote it out, not by force, as the opposition has always planned.
According to the former ICT and Kampala Minister, the NRM can only plan to have a new Presidential flag bearer when the time comes, but for the time being, Gen Museveni remains their best choice who has proven that he can lead the NRM to victory and administer government effectively.
Tumwebaze also warned the youth to keep a safe distance from acts of violence that can lead to difficulties, particularly after being mislead by opposition leaders with personal agendas.
