Medvedev, the runner-up at the Australian Open this year, will play 117th-ranked Dutch qualifier Botic Van de Zandschulp in the first round at Arthur Ashe Stadium in a bid to reach his fourth Grand Slam semifinal and third in a row.

The Russian was the runner-up in the 2019 US Open and reached the semifinals on the New York hardcourts last year.

After defeating defending champion Naomi Osaka and three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber in the first two rounds, Fernandez, who turned 19 on Monday, will face Ukraine’s fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina.

Second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will face defending French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova of Czech Republic in the night session.

Sabalenka reached the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time in her career.

The final match on Ashe pits Spanish 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz against Canadian 12th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who defeated Greek third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. The winner will play in his first Grand Slam semifinal.
