Mr Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro (prime minister) of Buganda, inaugurated a two-day Covid-19 mass immunization at Bulange gardens in Mengo, Kampala, yesterday.

As the government prepares for a full reopening of the economy in January, the exercise attempts to increase the number of people who have been vaccinated.

This follows President Museveni’s announcement last week that the government possesses 23 million doses of Covid vaccinations, enough to vaccinate 12 million Ugandans.

Mr Mayiga told journalists after a meeting with Masaka area authorities at Bulange that the campaign will primarily target Kampala’s youth and other inhabitants.

“We expect the public to rush to the Bulange gardens to get vaccinated because the government has provided us with adequate vaccines through the KCCA (Kampala Capital City Authority),” he said.

Mr. Mayiga further advised the people to continue to follow different pandemic regulations and precautions.

“I encourage people to avoid crowded locations as much as possible, to exercise, to get enough rest, and to eat a healthy diet.” “If we combine it with immunizations, we will be able to overcome the obstacles posed by Covid-19,” he stated.

The Katikkiro also warned against ignorance and distortion concerning the Covid-19 vaccination, citing Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, who was publicly immunized beside the Queen.

Medical and Molecular Laboratories Limited gave 10,000 masks to the kingdom at the same event to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Uganda has given out 3,189,173 Covid-19 pills by Sunday.

There were also 36 additional cases, with a test positivity rate of just under 1%.
