Mathew Kirabo Found Guilty of Murdering Girlfriend Desire Mirembe
Mirembe, 19, was a medical student at Makerere University at the time of her death.
Mathew Kirabo was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Desire Mirembe Jemima, by Mukono High Court Judge Justice Henry Kaweesa.
In his ruling on Monday, Justice Kaweesa stated that the case was a “love story gone wrong” after carefully reviewing all of the evidence.
Mirembe, 19, was a medical student at Makerere University at the time of her death.
Kirabo was convicted of first-degree murder by the judge, but he will be sentenced once he is apprehended.
Mirembe’s Desire
Mirembe’s body was discovered in a sugarcane plantation in Lugazi, Buikwe district, on July 7, 2015.
Kirabo, her boyfriend, confessed to the heinous crime and was charged with murder in Jinja Magistrates Court before being remanded.
On November 24, 2016, he was granted bail.
According to media reports, Kirabo was granted bail but has since skipped it and fled the country.
He and his family were fined Shs150 million, which they paid in cash.
