Masaka Priests to be charged of Murder over support for NUP

Rev Mugisha, of Bisanja Parish in Kimaanya- Kabonera Municipality, is well known for aggressively criticizing the NRM government and President Museveni, and for urging people to vote for the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the recent elections.

In connection with the death of a suspected thief identified as Ronald Kyeyune, police in Masaka are holding Rev Fr Richard Mugisha, a well-known critic of the reigning NRM administration, and President Museveni.

Rev Mugisha, of Bisanja Parish in Kimaanya- Kabonera Municipality, is well known for aggressively criticizing the NRM government and President Museveni, and for urging people to vote for the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the recent elections.

On October 13, however, One Ronald Kyeyune broke into the parish residence, destroyed his automobile, gained access to its inside, and attempted to flee with it.

Kyeyune, on the other hand, failed in his endeavor when he began hooting excessively, forcing people to gather to see what was going on, only to discover him nude and driving Rev Mugisha’s automobile, albeit without permission.

Witnesses said he was pulled out of the car, prompting cops to intervene. As a result, he was escorted away from the scene and detained.

Rev Mugisha, on the other hand, was only getting into difficulty when police summoned him two days later to inform him that Kyeyune had died while in detention. Rev Mugisha was then briefly detained before being released on police bond and facing murder accusations.

Rev Mugisha, who maintains his innocence, says that the suspect was given over to police unhurt, but he is concerned about the inconsistent statements that are currently being made.

“We did not beat the suspect because there were too many people nearby; if we had, they would not have discovered him alive,” explains Rev Mugisha.

“I’m not sure what’s going on; the whole thing is perplexing.” The police claim he died while being taken to the police station, then later claim he died while being taken from the station to the hospital. Besides, how can I become the accused if I arrived later to the scene and discovered individuals already there?” Reverend Mugisha stated.

Mugisha claims that the suspect was in fine condition when he left the crime site and that it is inexplicable that he is now accused of murdering him (Kyeyune).

Kyeyune had no visible injuries, according to Muhamad Nsubuga, the Police Spokesperson for Masaka Subregion, but his condition abruptly altered, forcing them to seek medical help.

“The suspect did not appear to be hurt, but his condition deteriorated, so we decided to send him to the hospital.” However, he died in the middle of making the arrangements. “We believe he died as a result of the beatings he received at the crime site,” Ndubuga said.
