“Mao is the most talented’ opposition politician,” says Gen Muhoozi.
"In my perspective, Mao is the most talented' opposition politician," says Gen Muhoozi.
Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s First Son, has said that Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party’s president general, is the most “intelligent opposition politician in Uganda.”
Without elaborating, Muhoozi, who is also the commander of the Land Forces, tweeted that Mao possesses presidential qualities.
Mao ran for president twice, but both times he was defeated. He is also the first individual to lead the Democratic Party from outside of Buganda.
In the run-up to the 2021 elections, his leadership of Uganda’s oldest political party has been marked by multiple political storms, the most recent of which saw more than a dozen MPs abandon DP in favor of the National Unity Platform.
However, for the time being, the skilled orator seemed to have stabilized the ship.
Muhoozi’s post elicited a variety of responses, with some of his social media followers praising his viewpoint while others have poured cold water on it.
Chairman Mao, according to one Oweishe Kabondo BC, has always practiced mature politics.
“People should constantly disagree in order to agree,” he remarked, “but not to detest others who hold opposing political views.”
“His capacity to discern and address topics rationally,” stated Kemigisha Zoey, is what distinguishes Mao.
Others who responded to Muhoozi raised the issue of Mao’s alleged collusion with the NRM.
Mao has the power to “sell the country for a piece of Kindanzi (doughnut),” according to Chris Kato.
Muhoozi’s tweet about Mao’s ability will give some flavor to a stale debate: Is the first son considering running for president?
Indeed, some have speculated that Muhoozi’s tweet indicates that he is attempting to reach out to some opposition politicians as he prepares for a future presidential bid.
