Lockheed Martin, Israel’s defense firm to develop laser weapon system
To protect warfighters on the ground and in the air, Lockheed Martin is already working on deployable tactical airborne laser weapon options. They are currently working together with Israel to create a high-energy laser weapon system.
An deal to jointly develop a high-energy laser weapon system has been inked by Lockheed Martin, a weapon manufacturer based in the United States, and Rafael, a state-owned defense corporation in Israel.
The firms stated in a joint statement on Monday that the agreement covers the system’s development, testing, and manufacturing in both Israel and the United States.
According to the statement, the upcoming system will be based on the Iron Beam laser defense system, which was already created by Rafael and the Israeli Defense Ministry.
By directly striking the targets with high-energy lasers, the Iron Beam, which has a high power of 100 kW, aims to become a functional ground-based air defense system against rockets, mortars, drones, and other threats.
