The Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez of Ajax has come under fire for attending a “farewell supper” with his chef that seemed more like a gathering with Erik ten Hag.
A “last supper” with Lisandro Martinez and his cook has been pictured as the Ajax player comes closer to a fantasy switch to Manchester United.
The adaptable defender has been sought after by Joined for the entire summer, but negotiations have stalled since Ajax is reluctant to part ways with a key member of their team who helped them win the Eredivisie title under Erik ten Hag last year. Martinez, on the other hand, is eager to work under his former manager at Old Trafford, and it appears that the Premier League’s biggest clubs are on the verge of making a breakthrough.
After United postponed a job offer for the defender, talks between the two clubs are at a high level, and it’s expected that a deal for around £46 million will be reached soon. Kabir Kohli hinted as much when he posted an Instagram photo of the 24-year-old with the caption “last supper.”
Martinez’s chef also tweeted that he had tried everything to ‘persuade’ Martinez to stay in Amsterdam for another year but that the Argentina international appeared to be on his way to Old Trafford.
Martinez received the impression Kohli conveyed to him shortly after De Telegraaf confirmed that the defender had been asked to practice alone rather than with his teammates because Ajax preferred not to jeopardize a deal with United, who have been pursued in their search for one of Ten Hag’s former commanders.
Ten Hag had anticipated hitting Martinez and his Ajax teammate, Antony, twice on his former team. In any event, the Dutch have requested that the 22-year-old will not be allowed to depart for less than €80m (£68m), indicating that they are not fully content to maintain hold of the talented attacker.
However, other than Ajax’s stance on Antony, things for Ten Hag are finally starting to look better. The club and Barcelona have finally reached an agreement about Frenkie de Jong, who is Ten Hag’s main summer transfer priority.
The agreement suggests that if United and the Dutch playmaker can come to a private agreement, the protracted transfer saga may soon come to an end.
Another player who closely cooperated with Ten Hag while playing at Ajax is De Jong, and the new United manager is keen to give the 25-year-old a starting position in his revamped squad.
The team anticipates concluding deals for De Jong and Martinez soon to add to the acquisition of Tyrell Malacia, who arrived from Feyenoord in a £12.9 million deal a week ago. Additionally confident in their conversations with Christian Eriksen, Joined is convinced that they can force the Danish playmaker out of Brentford.
