Late Abiriga’s stolen vehicle recovered in DRC

Security has recovered a double cabin pick-up truck of the late MP Ibrahim Abiriga, which was about stolen two weeks ago.

Last month, Abiriga’s white car with the registration number UAY 668G went missing from his home in Anyafio village, Arua city.

The car was later discovered to have been sold in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The car was discovered abandoned with the keys inside at a gas station in the DRC’s Odramacaku trade area on Monday, with the number plates gone.

Abiriga was slain in 2018 near his house in Kawanda, Wakiso district, with his driver and bodyguard, Saidi Butele Kongo. His death has remained a mystery, with no leads or police arrests.

Arua police were alerted by security officials at Odramacaku, who went to pick up the car and bring it to Arua for a full check. On Thursday, it was turned over to the family.

While handing over the car to Zaidi Edema, the son of late Abiriga, RDC Arua Festus Ayikobua urged to the public to cooperate with security officers in order to reduce incidents of insecurity. Edema expressed gratitude to security officials for retrieving his father’s vehicle. He did say, however, that they are living in terror because of threats from unknown individuals.

So far, two cars and one motorbike taken from the UNHCR headquarters two weeks ago have been recovered from DRC since late July.
