Lapaire’s ‘clear sight, zero accidents’ campaign spearheads Africa’s road safety initiative.

Various factors contribute to the multitude of traffic accidents occurring annually in Uganda and worldwide.

Few people realize that our eyes provide 90% of the information needed for safe driving. However, maintaining good eyesight is not just about personal well-being; it is also a key aspect in guaranteeing the safety of everyone on the road.

According to a recent Uganda Traffic Police report, 432 incidents occurred, with 97 being fatal, 202 being serious, and 133 being minor.

100 people died and 324 were injured among the 424 victims. Surprisingly, 23% of drivers, or nearly a quarter, reported difficulty seeing adequately when driving owing to vision problems.

Taking one’s eyes off the road for even a moment, whether texting, adjusting the radio, or conversing with passengers, offers considerable risks.

Human mistake, excessive speeding, reckless driving, and insufficiently maintained roads are among the most common causes in Uganda.

Unmaintained roads, unskilled drivers, and technically defective automobiles are just a few examples.

Lapaire is preparing to start the “Clear vision, zero accidents” campaign as part of their commitment to promoting responsible road behavior and a safe driving culture in Africa, particularly Uganda.

Following their collaboration with the Uganda Traffic Police during road safety week in November 2022, this program will have an impact in five West African countries as well as Uganda in East Africa.

Strategic relationships with petrol stations, delivery firms, driving schools, and social media influencers are part of the Pan African campaign.

The main goal, according to the company, is to minimize the incidence of road accidents and associated casualties by resolving vision-related impairments, supporting safe driving techniques, and building safer road environments.

This program aims to ensure that motorists have clear vision, allowing them to drive safely.

Make sound decisions when driving.

According to Oliver Mwanko Wambile, Public Relations and Communications Officer for Lapaire East Africa, roughly one-quarter of drivers experience eye issues when driving.

To have a big impact on the community, he encourages all road users, particularly those having visual problems such as sensitivity to light, eye strain, or fuzzy vision, to visit any Lapaire location for full free eye screenings.

Every year during the third week of November, Road Safety Week provides an excellent chance for communities and organizations to actively participate in road safety efforts.

Mwanko claims that this year’s week-long celebration, which began on November 19, will conclude on November 29.
