KCCA issues plan for vaccination of teachers within Kampala

Teachers and support personnel at Kampala schools (both public and private) have been vaccinated against Covid-19, according to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

Teachers and support personnel at Kampala schools (both public and private) have been vaccinated against Covid-19, according to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

This comes as the government emphasizes that vaccination of teachers, school support personnel, and students over the age of 18 will be critical in reopening schools.

The Director of Education and Social Services at KCCA, Juliet Namuddu Nambi, said in a statement that they are working with the Directorate of Public Health and Environment (DPHE) and the Directorate of Administration and Human Resource (DAHR) to guarantee that the categories indicated are vaccinated.

Bat Valley Primary School, Kitante Primary School, Namirembe Infant Primary School, Busega Primary School, St Peters Nsambya Primary School, St Denis Ssebugwawo Secondary School, Kiswa Primary School, Ntinda Primary School, Makerere University Primary School, and St Peters Kanyanya Primary School are the vaccination centers.

“According to the Department of Public Health, these schools will serve as vaccination centers for teachers and support personnel receiving their first dosage of the vaccine. Those who are due for a second dose should visit one of the city’s health centers, according to Nambi.

Head teachers are urged to organize their schools’ teachers and support personnel to be vaccinated at the aforementioned locations as directed.

Phase one of the immunization exercise, according to Nambi, will begin on Wednesday, August 25th, 2021 and finish on Saturday, August 28th, 2021.

“Should there be a necessity, immunization will continue/resume the following week on Monday, August 30th, 2021. Vaccination will be done on a first-come, first-served basis, with vouchers available to that end,” she added.
