The Ministry of Gender and Culture Affairs has been contacted by Kawempe South MP Bashir Kazibwe Mbaziira to provide explanation on a matter involving two singers, Travis Kazibwe, better known as DR Tee, and Sophie Nantongo.
According to Kazibwe, the musicians have taken over a government-funded recording studio in Mengo-Kampala that was meant to help all musicians.
In voicing his worries, Kazibwe emphasized the challenges artists encounter in gaining access to the studio in spite of government financing.
The government set up a recording studio in Mengo-Kampala in 2019, and all musicians were required to pay a charge of Shs100,000 to use it. But according to the feedback we’re getting, musicians find it difficult to go inside the studio,” Kazibwe stated.
He questioned whether the project now exclusively belongs to these two individuals or if it still remains a government initiative.
