Judiciary staff to wear uniforms to control corruption
The permanent secretary to the Judiciary Mr Pius Bigirimana has revealed that all judiciary staff will start wearing uniforms for easy identification as part of efforts to fight against corruption in the institution.
Bigirimana made the announcement through a notice issued to all judiciary staff noting that the uniforms will be purchased in a phased manner.
“The development comes against recommendations in the 2020 Judiciary Anti- Corruption taskforce report, which emphasised staff uniforms for all support staff. This, the report stressed, would ease staff identification in their respective courts and minimize the vice of corruption” he said.
Bigirimana said the move will for the start have at least 550 support staff (450 Court Clerks and 100 driver) provided with corporate shirts and t-shirts, complete with their full names and job titles.
The judiciary’s chief Registrar Sarah Langa said it will be easy to identify and deal with crooks who have been extorting money from unsuspecting people by impersonating court officials.
