The Jinja district council has finally approved four executive committee members.
Following the outbreak of Covid-19, the election of the executive was suspended because to conflicts about the placement of the district headquarters and a restriction on meetings.
Moses Batwala, the LC V chairperson, read out the names of the members.
Vice Chairperson Viola Nanangwe, Secretary for Health and Education Prossy Mutiibwa, Secretary for Finance Samuel Akalyamawa, and Secretary for Production and Natural Resources Prossy Nakirya are among them. The works and transportation dockets were kept by Batwala.
The lack of a functional executive committee, according to Simon Kibombo, the councilor representing Buwenge sub-county, has hampered service delivery within the district. “The executive committee is the highest-ranking body, liaising with technocrats to guarantee that our electorates have timely access to services, and now that it is completely formed, we will undoubtedly address the issues that face our communities,” he adds.
The executive, according to Ruth Mubezi, a female councilor representing workers in Jinja district, would be important in the establishment of sub-committees tasked with ensuring the seamless execution of council business.
Batwala claims that he chose the councilors based on their talents, and that anyone who fails to meet the electorate’s expectations would be replaced.
