Meiji Recalls Packaged Milk Due to Cattle Drug Discovery

Meiji Holdings, a major Japanese dairy company, said on Saturday that it was recalling more than 44,000 bottles of its packaged milk after it found medications in the milk that were meant to treat animal infections.

Tokyo, Japan |  BAZZUP | Meiji Holdings, a major Japanese dairy company, said on Saturday that it was recalling more than 44,000 bottles of its packaged milk after it found medications in the milk that were meant to treat animal infections.

The 180-milliliter bottled milk with the label “Meiji Milk,” produced in a plant run by the large food corporation Meiji in Kaizuka City, Osaka, is the product in question.

Following a regular health department inspection last week, Osaka prefecture requested the recall of 44,577 bottles with an expiry date of November 13.

Sulfamonomethoxine, the antimicrobial compound that was found, is thought to have no negative health consequences, and there have been no complaints of health problems linked to consuming the contaminated milk.

Meiji promised to issue reimbursements for the impacted items on its website.
