In connection with the unfortunate shooting death of Isma Ibrahim Tusubira alias Olexis alias Jaja Iculi, a video blogger, music critic, and political analyst, on May 6, 2023, at approximately 9:15 pm, close to his residence in Kyanja Central Zone, the police have detained a driver and two other people.

The Joint Task Team of security professionals from CID, Crime Intelligence, Forensics, IT, and KMP Territorial Units teams are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to help ascertain the circumstances of the crime, according to SCP Enanga Fred, Police Spokesperson.

Enanga stated, “What we can affirm is that it was not a random attack but a targeted incident, where two gunmen armed with a single handgun emerged from their hiding place close to his gate and fired multiple bullets, killing him instantaneously from the passenger seat.

According to him, Wasswa Mathias, the driver of Iculi, was unharmed and uninjured despite the gunshots that pierced the driver’s side.

Along with two other suspects, he remains under guard while assisting with some lines of inquiry.

The two attackers rode a motorcycle that was waiting for them as they fled on foot up to the main road.

When that happened, the K9 dog halted. The K9 team also found one glove.

We are also examining the victim’s and his driver’s whole itinerary, which included their departure from Munyonyo at around 4 p.m. through the Entebbe Expressway, their stopover and dinner at Nyakana’s pub in Mutungo, and their arrival at their destination at about 8:15 p.m. We’ve discovered that the victim got a call while traveling and instructed the driver to pull over near the Munyonyo roundabout so they could wait for the caller.

They kept driving after he failed to show up. Around 9:15 p.m., when they arrived at the victim’s front gate, they were ambushed and the victim was shot.

Investigations will determine in due course if the caller is connected to the murder’s organizers or not.

The murder’s motivation has not yet been determined at this point.

“The media, bloggers, netizens, and others who are involved in the rampant rumor-mongering about the murder continue to mistreat the family and the general public by publishing unverified accounts. We have yet to determine if his death was motivated by his social media work or by other factors, despite the fact that some of his videos were contentious,” said Enanga.

His immediate family, friends, relatives, and all those well-wishers who were impacted by the tragic occurrence remain in our thoughts, he continued. In an effort to find the perpetrators of the horrific murder and prosecute them, our task team is working relentlessly.
