It’s like Christianity without Christ, says DP, who also warns a new opposition pressure group against Mukaaku’s portrayal.

Some lawmakers, notably Walter Lubega Mukaaku, were exposed as representatives of the DP block in the new front during the opening of the pressure group on Thursday at the JEEMA headquarters.

The Democratic Party has slammed the People’s Front for Transition (PFT), a newly created opposition pressure group, for misleading the public.

Some lawmakers, notably Walter Lubega Mukaaku, were exposed as representatives of the DP block in the new front during the opening of the pressure group on Thursday at the JEEMA headquarters.

However, DP spokesperson Okoler Opio Lo Amanu stated in a statement that the party was not represented at the pressure group.

“The Democratic Party has noted with sadness, concern, and amusement the attempt by one Kalinge Nyago and some former members of the Democratic Party, namely Sam Lubega Mukaaku, Sulaiman Kidandala, Kenneth Paul Kakande, Vincent Mayanja, and Christine Ikiria, purporting to be leaders in Dr. Besigye’s People’s Front and claiming to be representing the DP Bloc,” said Koler.

“Some of these self-seeking individuals, whose trademarks include indiscipline and opportunism, originally claimed to be members of the DP Bloc of the National Unity Platform (NUP).” NUP had been informed about them and their disruptive behavior. Thankfully, the NUP distanced itself from them, even denying them a party ticket in the last elections. These are the people who sabotaged any attempt at cooperation between People Power/NUP and the Democratic Party.”

The Democratic Party spokeswoman stressed that the people introduced as DP bloc representatives were just acting and urged the new pressure organization not to associate with them.

“We expect these folks to be members of the People’s Front in their individual capacities, but not as a DP bloc.” It’s like claiming to have Christianity without Christ if you pretend to have DP bloc without DP.”

Mao’s DP, on the other hand, cautioned the new pressure group to take seriously the party’s warning against the aforementioned persons, which the party claims are politically stuck, but warned them not to use the party’s name in their plans.

“These politically stranded individuals are free to try to resurrect their failing political careers, but they will not be able to do it at DP’s expense.” If the People’s Front is truly committed to achieving its declared goals, it should take our concerns seriously. These are the kinds of deceptive tactics that have hampered and continue to hampered the formation of a genuine coalition of pro-democracy forces capable of creating the leverage necessary to bring about a democratic transition in Uganda.”

The Democratic Party, on the other hand, said it welcomed the new platform and remained committed to ethical cooperation with any group dedicated to deposing President Museveni, but added that this mission necessitates putting the country above self-interest.

“In fact, the Democratic Party’s track record reveals that it is the leading proponent and most persistent backer of principled unity among change seekers.”
