Italian footballer Stefano Mazengo Loro breaks barriers, plays in Ugandan super league

Stefano Mazengo Loro goes against the flow in a world where European leagues capture the finest of Africa’s football talent. After playing in Europe, the Italian joined Ugandan Super League club Kampala City Council Authority FC.

In June 2020, Mazengo signed a two-year contract with the KCCA.

“To be honest, I wasn’t expecting this opportunity, and I didn’t think it would occur. It’s just another item checked off my bucket list. I was also curious to see how the level was because I’d watched them play it, but I wasn’t sure whether I could make it. Could I pull it off? Is it something I could handle? I wanted to put myself to the test as well “Mazengo remarked.

He began his career in the Kampala Kids League before making appearances in the Netherlands, Spain, and most recently the United Kingdom.

His background and excellent collaboration have allowed him to quickly mix in with the Ugandan side.

“He has been quite helpful to us. He’s pretty bright, a good midfield player who knows how to coordinate other players, and he’s quite friendly “KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso stated.

Mazengo plans to create his own academy in the future to help nurture East African football’s new talent.

He also aspires to close the football divide that has traditionally existed between Europe and Africa.

“Eventually, I’d like to build perhaps my own academy and attempt to bridge the gap between Europe and East Africa by bringing some talent there,” Mazengo added.
