This week, Bazzup Senga brings you six surprising advantages of sex. Everyone knows that sex is exciting and pleasurable, but did you know that it may also boost your self-esteem and mental well-being? Or that regular orgasms lower your cancer risk.

One of the 237 reasons people have sex is to boost their self-esteem. According to a study conducted by the University of Texas, this is the case. Julia Cole, author of ‘How to Have Great Sex for the Rest of Your Life,’ believes that having a healthy sex life with a loving spouse improves one’s self-esteem.

“Your body releases endorphins after a sex session, which are known as happy chemicals because they boost mood,” she explains. Purely from a physical standpoint, it’s comparable to getting a good workout or swimming, and having sex with someone you love also helps you feel cared for and boosts your self-esteem.

Sleep is improved by sex.

The body also creates oxytocin during orgasm, a hormone associated to a variety of physical and psychological advantages. The most notable of these is its calming effect on sleep.

“There is no doubt that sex is incredibly soothing and hence aids in the treatment of insomnia,” says Delvin, a sexual medicine specialist.

“Many people use sex to get sleep, whether with a spouse or for self-serving reasons. This is due to an increase in oxytocin, a natural sedative, during arousal and orgasm.

Relieves tension

One of the most important health benefits is the reduction of stress. 24 women and 22 men maintained track of their sexual activities for a study published in the journal “Biological psychology.”

They were put in difficult conditions like public speaking and verbal arithmetic by the researchers.

Intercourse participants reacted to stress better than those who engaged in other sexual practices or abstained.

Apart from the obvious delightful sensation of being touched or stroked, it is thought to have a physiological effect, lowering the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.

Immune system booster

Higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A, which helps protect the body from colds and other diseases, have been related to having sex once or twice a week.

Paula Hall, a psychosexual therapist, believes that the impact of sex on our general well-being also aids immunity.

“All of the psychological advantages have an effect on one’s physical health, such as the immune system.”

Relieves discomfort

Sex has been related to pain relief in a variety of diseases, including lower back pain, migraines, arthritis, and symptoms of premenstrual tension.

It’s all down to those pesky hormones once more.

Endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, are increased during sex.

Reduces the chance of cancer

According to an Australian study, frequent ejaculations may lower the risk of prostate cancer in later life for males.

The researchers discovered that males who had five or more ejaculations weekly in their 20s had a third lower risk of prostate cancer than those who did not.

Delvin verifies that guys who have jerked off frequently in the past are less likely to get prostate cancer.

“No one understands why this is the case, but it appears to be very set in stone.”

Regular sexual activity, according to research, may also benefit women  avoid breast cancer.
