In the third round at Indian Wells, Schwartzman defeats Evans.

In third-round action at Indian Wells on Monday, Diego Schwartzman defeated Briton Dan Evans 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.

Reilly Opelka, a towering American, lost 6-3, 6-4 to Grigor Dimitrov, despite his thundering serve.

Dimitrov got his revenge after losing in straight sets to Opelka at the Canadian Open in August.

The top-seeded Daniil Medvedev or the 27th-seeded Filip Krajinovic will face Dimitrov next.

Evans, who advanced to the fourth round of the US Open last month, came back from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to win it, then maintained his momentum in the second set to break the Argentine 11th seed’s service in the first game.

In the second set, though, Schwartzman came back to tie the match by converting four of six break points. Evans was never able to regain his footing in the third set, as Schwartzman only dropped two first-serve points.

John Isner, the 20th seed, withdrew from his third-round match against Jannik Sinner on Tuesday to travel home for the birth of his third child.
