On Saturday afternoon, a fire destroyed the Hima cement business in Kasese, killing three workers and injuring eight more.
According to the company’s CEO, Jean-Michel Pons, the fire started during installation work on one of their oil tanks on Saturday evening.
“What we know so far is that when the event occurred, a team staff was undertaking installation work at the light diesel oil tank,” Pons added.
He stated that three workers were killed and eight others were injured in the fire that began about 12:30 p.m., but that their own firefighters, along with a team from the police and the UPDF, were able to put out the fire after one hour of fighting.
“Our team is collaborating with authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the occurrence and determine the sequence of events.”
The CEO of Hima Cement, on the other hand, stated that the plant’s operations have been paused in order to assess the situation and ensure that the fire is entirely controlled.
