At least 26 people have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a senior army officer from a guest house in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, according to police.
Major Joseph Mukuraine, 44, a UPDF officer and manager of Wazalendo, an army SACCO branch in Entebbe, was discovered dead in Birunga Lodge in Kiwatule, a city suburb.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Mr Patrick Onyango, the serviceman was booked into the guest house on Wednesday night and was discovered dead on Friday morning.
“He was found dead in his bathroom.” “The cause of death has not yet been determined, but the case is being investigated,” he told this publication on May 27.
According to Mr Onyango, “the 26 suspects were arrested as part of a joint security agencies operation to assist in investigations.”
“We’re screening them using finger prints from the screen and surface touches at the scene, as well as CCTV footage from the hotel,” he explained.
According to police, the soldier’s body was recovered from the crime scene and transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem on Friday.
