In Hoima, 289 young people participated in an LDU recruitment activity.

According to Samuel Kisembo, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner- RCC, 116 applicants showed up for the exercise in Hoima city, including 97 men and 19 women.

289 young people from the Hoima district applied for positions in the Local Defense Unit. The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has announced the recruitment of 10,000 more Local Defense Unit (LDU) troops across the country. The recruiting was aimed at young people aged 18 to 29 who had at least a Uganda Certificate of Education.

Academic papers and applications were required to be submitted to the office of the Resident District Commissioners for review.

According to Samuel Kisembo, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner- RCC, 116 applicants showed up for the exercise in Hoima city, including 97 men and 19 women.

He claims that the shortlisting process will resume soon, and that those who are chosen will be notified when they must report for interviews at the UPDF Artillery Division headquarters in Masindi.

In the Hoima district, 173 young people showed up to be recruited, with 20 females and 153 males.

According to Richard Tabaro, the Hoima Deputy Resident District Commissioner, some of the applicants were turned away because they lacked National Identity Cards and were beyond the age limit.

There are more than 25,000 LDU recruits across the country, the majority of them were recruited in 2018 in response to an uptick in crime in various sections of the country, including the assassination of some high-profile figures.
