Asuman Malinga, a former special police constable-SPC, got a khaki package with one bullet for an AK-47 rifle, a cartridge, and two threatening pamphlets, according to authorities in the Kiira region.
On Friday morning, Malinga, a resident of Buyengo town council in Jinja district, received the envelop from his neighbor, Aidah Nangobi.
Malinga was suspected of committing crimes in Mayuge and fleeing to Jinja district as a cover-up for his previous nefarious actions, according to one of the leaflets.
According to Nangobi, a woman on a motorcycle handed the envelope to her shop before speeding away.
“A woman wearing a veil reached out to me and begged me to carry this envelope to Malinga, whom I know well, and I didn’t hesitate to help her deliver the parcel because she claimed to be in a hurry,” she adds.
Malinga denies knowing anyone who could be plotting against his life.
“I ran to the police station after opening this parcel because I had no idea who was going to harm me,” he claims. “We even tried to track down the woman who allegedly delivered the gift, but it was too late and she couldn’t be found.”
The incident has been confirmed by Kiira region police spokesperson James Mubi, who further says that the retrieved items have been registered as exhibits at Buwenge central police station.
Mubi goes on to say that police have since teamed up with sister agencies to figure out where the bullet came from and why the suspects chose to transport such stuff to Malinga.
