If I could go back in time and be young again, I would spend my time creating money rather than marrying- Ex-VP Bukenya
Former Vice President Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya, who recently divorced, says he regrets marrying and wishes he had spent his youth working.
Bukenya believes that marriage is overrated and, in most situations, a waste of time for many individuals in a sit-down interview with Sanyuka’s news vulture Natalia Ozie.
Prior to his recent divorce from Dr. Magaret Bukenya, the former vice president and educationist had been married on the wing since 1974.
The former vice president was hauled to court by his wife, who was seeking a divorce for alleged adultery, forcing him to flee their marital home in Ntinda and set up camp in Garuga, Wakiso District.
Bukenya did not protest to the divorce, claiming that the couple had long agreed to separate in 2003. He went on to say that he couldn’t live a celibate life, so he had a few flings here and there.
The former Vice President compares the scenario to a religious passage that underlines that there is a time for everything, including pain and joy.
“Forget about everything you see out there about being married being forever and eternity. We had different lifestyles and realized we weren’t compatible, so we agreed to split up; she is happy, and I am happy, too, as a free man,” Bukenya said.
He is opposed to the concept of ever getting married again and believes it was a mistake to begin with.
“If I could go back in time, I would never marry and spend the rest of my life and energies generating money,” he insisted.
Bukenya was speaking on a show whose tagline is “unapologetic,” yet he quickly apologized to those who may have been offended by his statement.
Nonetheless, technicalities aside, he argued that it is his main point of view.
“When I was younger, I used to wonder why some individuals didn’t marry; I only realized why when I got married.” I apologize and hope that what I have said does not lead to me being mistreated on social media, but the truth is that marriage is a trap, and I do not expect anyone to expect me to marry even now,” Bukenya stated.
