HR Practitioners Urged to Invest In Upskilling
Human resource professionals in Uganda have been exhorted to invest continuously in upskilling themselves and their workforces in order to prepare their organizations for the future of work.
“You will be left behind if you are not intentional about investing in new talents, anticipating the future, and responding to the continuously changing difficulties in the broader business environment.” Absa Bank Uganda’s Managing Director, Mumba Kalifungwa, stated.
Because of technology improvements and an environment marked by volatility, unpredictability, complexity, and ambiguity, he continued, the human resource function may be very essential in advancing the organization’s strategy by planning for and educating employees of the future.
Kalifungwa made the statements while delivering the keynote talk at the annual ‘Heads of HR Beginning of Year Cocktail,’ which was held last Friday at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
According to the PricewaterhouseCoopers 23rd Annual Global CEO Survey, there is a rising need for ‘new collar’ occupations that involve a combination of digital, technical, and soft skills and are currently unfilled in today’s tight global labor market.
According to the report, the supply of people with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) talents as well as uniquely human skills such as creativity, empathy, and teamwork is becoming increasingly scarce in today’s job environment.
The forum, themed “Enabling Business to Achieve Strategic Objectives as the Head of HR from a CEO’s Perspective,” was organized by Motivation Hub, a human resource and capacity-building consultancy and training firm, and brought together the heads of the human resources divisions of the country’s leading organizations to inspire them to become better professionals within their organizations.
According to Pepe Minambo, Managing Partner of Motivation Hub Ltd, the two primary pain points of any organization are accountability and execution, and that HR may move beyond being only an enabling function and take the lead in matters connected to strategy execution.
