Leicester City began their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a classic Jamie Vardy strike in the 41st minute.
Wolves’ Adama Traore missed a golden opportunity before Vardy, 34, sprang up at the near post to delight the home crowd, making amends for an earlier effort that was disallowed for offside.
Vardy beat Conor Coady to the ball and turned it into the top corner with a delicate touch after Ricardo Pereira wove his way past two opponents on the right wing and produced a low cross to the edge of the six-yard box.
On the stroke of halftime, Leicester almost added a second when midfielder Youri Tielemans sent a twisting long-range effort straight at Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.
Caglar Soyuncu slid in to prevent a Francisco Trincao effort just after halftime, denying the visitors an equaliser, before Vardy went wide with Leicester looking threatening on the break.
In the 89th minute, Coady put the ball in the back of the net for the visitors as they battled for an equalizer, but the goal was disallowed for offside, giving new Wolves boss Bruno Lage a losing start in the Premier League.
